drunk, court, beat, wife husband, man, woman, alcohol Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court has dissolved the 25-year-old union between a woman, Yetunde Babalola and her husband, Wande Babalola. “My husband is a drunk and can drink a barrel of alcohol in a day. He complains of paucity of fund on a daily basis but will always have money to drink.”

Yetunde who alleged that her husband was a drunkard and in the habit of beating her, added that he cared less about her and their six children.

The plaintiff thus pleaded with the court to terminate the relationship between them and if her prayer was answered, award her the right to have their children in her care.

Wande agreed to divorce.

“My husband is a drunk and can drink a barrel of alcohol in a day. He complains of paucity of fund on a daily basis but will always have money to drink.

“He’s in the habit of drinking himself to stupor and will stagger home, shouting and disturbing the neigbourhood. When he arrives home, he will throw up and leave me and our children to clean up the mess.

“He’s not bothered that our children are looking malnourished or that they don’t have clothes to wear or look good like their peers, all he’s concerned about is alcohol.

“He beats me mercilessly any time I complain or discuss the issue of our children’s education with him and always threaten to throw me out of the house.

“My lord, I pray the court to vindicate me and grant me custody of our children. I also plead that the court stops him from coming to harass or fight me where ever I move to or at my work place, “she said.

“My lord, she’s a liar, “Wande told the court.

“I’ve only beaten her thrice since we got married and she provoked me to doing so.

“I have never failed to give our children money for food but she’s an Oliver Twist who is always asking for more. I have often told her to learn to be contended with whatever I can provide the home because I can’t steal.

“I want the court to also know that I’m responsible for our children’s training in school, “he said.

Giving his judgment after listening to the evidence given by both parties, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade separated the couple and ordered that their children be in the plaintiff’s care.

The defendant was mandated to be responsible for their children’s feeding, education and health care.

    Met why didn’t the learned judge not sentenced him for the beatings since he admitted that 3× him beat her??
