Death squad’ cop says he blew the whistle on the group after he was told to take blame for a murder he didn’t commit
Constable Collis “Chucky” Brown, who is on trial for murder, told investigators of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) that he decided to blow the whistle on the Clarendon police death squad after the Police High Command wanted him to take the blame for the January 2013 murder of a patient in the May Pen Hospital.
This is contained in an audio recording played for the jury Wednesday at the trial before the Home Circuit Court.
Adiff Washington was shot dead on January 13, 2013 when two masked men invaded the hospital.
In the audio, Constable Brown said he was approached by members of the High Command about the May Pen Hospital shooting.
The cop said he was told that he would be transferred from the Clarendon division until the heat cooled down over the shooting.
Constable Brown insisted that he did not commit the shooting and told his superiors that he was going to take the matter to the media.
He said they begged him not to do so as it would damage the police force.
Constable Brown told the INDECOM investigators that he conducted his own probe into the murder of Adiff Washington and discovered the facts.
He told the INDECOM investigators that he became concerned about the whole affair after a man he described as innocent, was later killed and a gun used in the hospital shooting planted on him.
He said this was done to provide cover for the persons behind the hospital shooting.
In the audio, which prosecutors began playing on Tuesday, Constable Brown confessed to INDECOM that he was a member of a death squad which had the full support of members of the High Command.
However, he insisted that he was not involved in the hospital shooting.
The constable is on trial for three counts of murder, conspiracy to murder and wounding with intent.
The jury is to hear more audio on Thursday.
Interesting
Me nah tell no lie, when Di death squad did a operate a May Pen crime was under control. Now dem a kil on an average of at least 3 daily in May pen and Clarendon surrounding districts. Nobody wants to be a witness and be branded as informer so the death squad took care of that by killing out the gunmen thus preventing the need for court hearings. If the death squad was still in operation murders wouldn’t be so rampant in May Pen.
Along time dem things here a gwaan police kill man and plant gun on dem ,all now its still happening. Who ago trust the police when dem a kill the innocent a tell lie… Changes have to be made cause all now eighty nine percent still corrupt. Half a dog u is the leader fi plant gun pon innocent ppl.
