Director of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, Robert Morgan, has announced that the funds used by Petrojam to throw the birthday party for former Energy Minister Dr. Andrew Wheatley have been returned to the State-run oil refinery.
When contacted by RJR News last evening, Morgan was unable to say when the money was repaid and directed our newsroom to make enquiries at Petrojam.
However, calls to the General Manager of Petrojam, Winston Watson, went unanswered.
Dr. Wheatley had said he was in talks with friends and backers about paying back the money amid the public criticism that followed a disclosure that $1.5 million was spent by Petrojam to throw him the surprise birthday party.
A probe by the Auditor General found that Petrojam was among other things charged US$2,427 for food and beverage and US$1,000 for a four-tiered topsy turvy chocolate cake.
