A three year-old boy remains in stable condition in hospital after he was allegedly fed a pesticide by his mother on the weekend in Orange Field, St. Mary. His mother, 29 year-old Racquel Sommerville, died after ingesting the pesticide. The police say Ms Sommerville was reportedly suffering from depression. A resident of Orange Field, Orville Grant, said he received a phone call about 11 o’clock Saturday morning from Ms Sommerville’s boyfriend to go to his house. He said her boyfriend became concerned after the couple had a conversation. According to Mr. Grant, when he went to the house, he called but did not hear the woman. He then walked around the house and saw her lying on the ground in the bathroom. Mr. Grant said he entered the house, pulled her to the entrance and called other residents for help. He said the police were then called and Ms Sommerville taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Mr. Grant said minutes earlier, another resident had been contacted by Ms Sommerville’s partner to remove the child from the house. He said the community has been left in shock as there were no warning signs.
