Jamaica’s murder tally since the start of the year has surpassed 800.
The latest crime statistics from the Jamaica Constabulary Force show that 816 murders were committed during the period January 1 to August 10.
That was 13 more, or a 1.6 per cent increase over the corresponding period in 2018.
There were 800 incidents of shootings reported for the period and 238 cases of aggravated assault.
The police statistics show a decline in cases of rape so far this year.
There were 298 incidents of rape for the January 1 to August 10 review period, versus 335 during the corresponding period last year.
On the other hand, reported robberies and break-ins increased to 697 and 779 respectively, up from 682 and 771 in 2018.
Larceny fell to 87 reported incidents compared to 103 in 2018.
