33 alleged One Don gang members denied bail
Thirty-three of the 36 members of the Spanish Town-based One Don gang, who have been charged in connection with gang related activities, were denied bail on Tuesday during a special sitting of the Home Circuit Court.
Government prosecutors opposed bail during the two-day bail hearing which started on Monday before a senior Puisne judge.
Two of the accused were offered bail, while the bail application for one of the accused was part-heard.
The hearing will continue at a later date to allow his attorney to supply additional material to the Court.
Members of the One Don gang were charged in July following a probe by the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC).
The accused were charged with offences including leadership of a criminal organisation, being part of a criminal organisation and facilitating serious offences.
Among the persons charged is a member of the Jamaica Defence Force.
The matter is set for mention on October 31.
The Police High Command had reported that the gang, which is a breakaway of the Clansman gang, has been linked to murders, shootings and extortion in several parishes.
The gang reportedly earned more than $50 million annually from extortion.
