A DUTY YOU OWE YOUR SPIRIT
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Psalm 23:4 – 5
The journey through the valley of the shadow of death was indeed a familiar one for David who always confronted the spirit of death; the lion and bear that could have killed him as well as many of his father’s flock if God was not with him. Remember that animals always move around in groups and if a lion shows up, it means there are other lions, lionesses and predators who hang around to feed after the lions are done with their prey. Even more dangerous was the evil Goliath he confronted with just his sling and stone. David could have been terrified just like the other soldiers at the warfront watching the giant as he taunted and cursed the army of God. But David was confident in the promises of God; he put his faith, hope and confidence in the fact that the God who delivered him from the lion and the bear will once again deliver him from the uncircumcised philistine.
Life is a battle field and only highly trained, armed and motivated soldiers win the battles of life. That is why you must always do what it takes to get your hopes up; find something that reminds you of the promises of God. The scriptures speak volumes about the promises of our tender loving compassionate God, father and friend but the works of His hands are material evidence that God is good, sovereign and faithful enough to deliver on His promises. The sun still rises to begin the day and sets to end the day; there is nothing man can do to stop that cycle that God has put in progress. Generations before you, testified of the faithfulness of God. People all around you are testifying of the faithfulness of God. Generations that will be born after you, will also testify of the faithfulness of God. So, you must constantly and consciously remind yourself of the faithfulness of God; that is the duty your mind owes your spirit.
