He Starved Me, Beat Me After I Dumped My 70-Yr-Old Husband
An Idi-Ogungun Customary Court in Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State, recently upheld the divorce request of an 18-year-old housewife, Barakat Jimoh, over constant fighting.
Barakat had approached the court for the dissolution of her second marriage with one Abdullahi Adewale.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Barakat in her testimony disclosed that she quit her first marriage with a 70-year-old man which was blessed with a four-year-old child for Adewale in 2016 because of the “blind love” she had for him.
“I regret abandoning my first marriage especially now that I receive constant brutality from Adewale.
“He always beats me whenever I demand for feeding allowance.
“I pray the court to dissolve our marriage and order him to pay a monthly allowance for the upkeep of the two-year-old child of our union,” she stated.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adewale was not in court to respond to the allegations.
The court president, Chief Mukaila Balogun, stated that the evidence of the plaintiff coupled with the refusal of the defendant to appear in court, had proven beyond doubt that there was no more love between them.
Balogun said the court had summoned the defendant five times so as to give him a fair hearing but he refused to honour the court.
He, therefore, dissolved their marriage and ordered the defendant to pay N4, 000 monthly for the upkeep of the only child of the marriage.
He advised the plaintiff to engage in a meaningful venture that would guarantee her social security.
