SIX PEOPLE ARRESTED IN ANTI-LOTTERY SCAM RAID

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Six people have been arrested for breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transaction) (Special Provisions) Act by MOCA’s Anti Lottery Scam Task Force, in operation carried out between Wednesday and yesterday in western Jamaica.

Reports are that about 7: 00 pm on Wednesday, members of MOCA’s Anti-Lottery Scam Taskforce assisted by the Hanover Operational Support Team (OST) and the Firearms Training Tactical Unit (FTTU) carried out operation in two Hanover communities; Hopewell and Sandy Bay. During these exercises two females and a male who were found in breach of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transaction) (Special Provisions) Act were arrested. The male who had a quantity of ganja in his possession was consequently charged for that offence as well.

About 5:00 am yesterday, the Task Force along with members of the St James (OST) and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), carried out an operation in the Guilsbro area of Lottery District, in St James. This operation resulted in three males from that community being arrested for breaching Law Reform (Fraudulent Transaction) (Special Provisions) Act as paraphernalia of scamming were found in their possession. One of the men was additionally charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act following the seizure of a quantity of ganja from him.

The identities of all six are being withheld to facilitate the investigations.
