ABANDONED PATIENTS GIVEN WARD AT CLARENDON INFIRMARY

A ward has been identified at Clarendon Infirmary for the transfer of former patients who have been abandoned at hospitals in the parish.

This was disclosed by Winston Maragh, Chairman of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation, during a town hall meeting this week.

Mr. Maragh said discussions are ongoing with the Ministry of Health to refurbish the ward to house eight people currently living in May Pen Hospital and two others at Lionel Town Hospital who have been abandoned by their families.

“We are going to fix up that ward five shortly and we are going to move those ten people from the hospitals into the infirmary,” he told the gathering.

The problem of inadequate bed spaces at hospitals has been a longstanding one and compounded by the difficulty in finding suitable accommodation for the abandoned persons.
