AFRICAN SOUL
YOU SAY I AM ONLY PART
BUT YOU CANNOT DIVIDE MY HEART
I STILL HAVE MY CLAIM, ALL REMAIN
MY SKIN MIGHT BE LIGHTER, MY HAIR MAYBE SOFTER
BUT I AM STILL AN AFRICAN DAUGHTER
YOU SAY I WON’T BE ACCEPTED
BUT I CANNOT BE NEGLECTED
MY MOTHER GAVE BIRTH TO ALL RACES
NO MATTER THE COLOR OF THE FACES
WHEN SHE SEES ME SHE WILL KNOW ME
SHE WILL TELL ME HOW LONG SHE HAS WAITED
NO LONGER WILL I BE THE ILL-FATED
I WILL BE THE MOST EXALTED
I AM STUNNED BY HER BEAUTY,
I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DISPUTE HISTORY
EMBRACE MY ROYALTY,
SING PRAISES TO THE ALMIGHTY
FOR I HAVE BEHOLD NOTHING BETTER YET
AFRICA, MY SOUL WILL NEVER FORGET
