A crew member on a cruise ship docked in Ocho Rios, St Ann, has been placed in isolation, according to the Health Ministry.
The individual who is of Asian descent and had travelled to that continent recently, has a high fever.
Jamaican health officials were informed of the ill-health of the crew member, and steps were subsequently taken to have that individual isolated.
Passengers on the cruise ship, which arrived in Jamaica on Tuesday from Miami, are being quarantined presently.
In light of the situation, a decision has also been taken not to allow passengers to disembark the vessel in Ocho Rios, or any port of entry on the island.
The measure was taken in the wake of the deadly coronavirus outbreak, which has seen over 80,000 people being infected globally, with a vast majority of the cases being in China.
The ship, which has over 5,000 passengers and 1,500 crew members on board, is expected to arrive in Cayman Islands on Wednesday.
The ship is currently docked a mile away from the Ocho Rios port as dialogue continues between the Health Ministry and authorities on board the ship.
Send it back where it’s coming from. Thanks you !
No no they cannot disembark.
