The long-awaited bad gas report has finally been released, but members of the public are not one step closer to determining the source of the contaminated fuel that has left many motorists peeved after digging deep into their pockets to repair their vehicles.
Minister of Science, Energy and Technology Dr Andrew Wheatley has indicated that the interim report on the contaminated gasolene, which was prepared by the Petroleum Trade Reform Committee and submitted to Cabinet earlier this week, is inconclusive.
“Notwithstanding the inconclusiveness of the interim report, I have issued a directive to have a full report completed and made available to me in the next four weeks. The presentation of the full report is critical to determining next steps, enabling us to learn from this unfortunate experience, and ultimately bringing closure to the issue,” Wheatley said.
He further stated that “in keeping with the public’s anticipation of a clear determination as to culpability and the Government’s commitment to openness, transparency, and accountability, I wish to assure the public that no effort will be spared in strengthening and fostering greater accountability on the part of all of the persons in the chain of custody as fuel is transported from sea to pump.”
