PALO ALTO – For the second time in a month, hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of expensive handbags have been stolen from a Stanford Shopping Center store, police said.

Around 5:30 p.m. Monday, a “coordinated group” of 11 people rushed into an open Louis Vuitton store and grabbed 36 handbags worth $100,000, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a news release.

No weapons were used and no injuries were reported.

Officers raced to the scene, but the suspects had already left in five vehicles by the time they arrived, police said.

Witnesses described the suspects as males and females in their late teens or early 20s, police said. The getaway vehicles were described as a gray Lexus sedan, a gray Infiniti SUV, a white Audi sedan, a black Hyundai sedan and a red Honda coupe.

Police released photographs a witness took of one of the suspects running through the shopping center.

The incident is similar to one that occurred at Neiman Marcus on May 19. At least 10 people ran into the department store and grabbed 43 handbags worth $150,000, police said. However, the three getaway vehicles used in the earlier incident were different.
