A British woman has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment at hard labour for breaches of the Dangerous Drug Act.
She is Amanda George, a customer service agent from Kent, England.
Ms George, who was sentenced in the St. James Parish Court on Wednesday, was also fined more than $1 million.
She was fined $800,000 or six months imprisonment and $850,000 for attempting to export cocaine or six months imprisonment.
She was admonished and discharged for the charge of dealing in cocaine.
Ms George was arrested at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St. James last month while attempting to board a Thomson flight to Birmingham, England.
It is reported that on October 08, about 12:30 p.m., detectives from the Narcotics Division found cocaine weighing approximately 3.1 kilogrammes concealed in a false compartment of her suitcase.
The street value of the drugs is almost $4 million.
Ms George pleaded guilty to the charges on October 23, 2017.
