Mother accused of damaging daughter’s $500,000 television
An elderly woman is now before the court on allegations that she damaged her daughter’s French window and her $500,000 flat-screen TV, after stoning her house.
It is alleged that the woman exacted her wrath on her daughter’s property after blaming her for her son’s arrest.
However, the accused, 63-year-old Mertella Jeffrey, has denied the allegations.
According to her, it was she who was attacked by her daughter and husband.
“A di two a dem a fight mi. Dem put mi outta di house, two a dem a fling stone up and dung,” Jeffrey told the court.
“Are you saying that they fling stone and damage their own property?” Chief Parish Judge Chester Crooks asked.
“Yes,” Jeffrey replied. “The same place, my place, the man weh she carry in all of dem haffi come out.”
The judge, after hearing Jeffrey’s response, which was supported by her lawyer, Nicholett Hamilton, bound her over to return to court on December 11, when the case will again be mentioned.
However, before the case ended, the judge questioned the cost of the television and was told that it was bought from Courts Jamaica Limited on hire purchase, hence the price.
According to the police report, on September 30, at 6:30 am, the complainant was home sleeping when she was awakened by a loud bang and noise. She got up, looked through her window, and saw her mother throwing stones at the house.
During the incident one of the stones smashed her French window and hit the 55-inch TV set.
The matter was reported to the police. A cop who visited the scene saw the broken window and a small impression to the back of the television, which cannot be turned on.
Jeffrey, who was charged with malicious destruction of property, when cautioned reportedly said, “Officer, a she mek mi son get lock up.”
It is also reported that Jeffrey further told the policeman: “Officer, mi a sick woman, enuh, mi cyaa go ah jail, mi deh pon medication.”

She never seh dem put har out. It Sounds like she lives elsewhere but went there to attack the daughter because har prize bull get locked up, mi hate mother like that bout shi can’t go jail because she sick, really? She have strength fi a fling stone though.
