A man was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment and fined J$950,000, after pleading guilty to importing more than three pounds of cocaine.
Owen Robinson, a resident of Cave Valley district in Hanover, was sentenced in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Monday, after pleading guilty to charges of possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, importing cocaine, and conspiring to import cocaine.
The cocaine was found on May 7, when Robinson was stopped and searched after arriving in the island on a flight from Trinidad.
He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he expelled 142 pellets of cocaine, which weighed three pounds seven ounces.
“Any reason why you shouldn’t go to jail for this, sir?” Senior Resident Magistrate’s Judith Pusey asked.
“I don’t know what to say,” he replied.
He was subsequently fined J$250,000 or six months for possession of cocaine, J$300,000 or six months for dealing in cocaine, J$400,000 and 18 months for importing cocaine, as well as 12 months for conspiracy, which will run concurrently.
