Woman fined $100,000 for stabbing boyfriend’s lover

KINGSTON, Jamaica – A woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend’s lover in the neck was fined $100,000 when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.

Ophelia Abrahams pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding when she appeared in court on Wednesday.

“What were you fighting for?” Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked.

According to the complainant, she had a relationship with the accused woman’s boyfriend.

Reports are that the complainant was standing on Wellington Street in Kingston texting when Abrahams stabbed her in the neck. Abrahams reportedly warned the complainant to stay out of her business before fleeing.

Prior to sentencing, Pusey asked the accused woman if there was any reason she shouldn’t be sent to jail.

“I have a baby,” the accused woman replied.

Pusey told her that she could not use the baby as an excuse.

“You had the baby before you committed the offence.

“You learn your lesson?” Pusey asked the woman who had spent five days in police custody.

“Yes your honour,” she replied.

“I don’t think so, the things you did for a man. He might just be somewhere drinking a pina colada with a young miss. Where you spend your holiday? You think it worth it?” Pusey said.

Abrahams was subsequently fined $100,000 or six months.
