Police have released photos of two men they want to speak to about a shooting that left a man dead over the weekend. The incident happened Sunday around 1:30 p.m. inside 219 Kingsborough 2 Walk. Police tell News 12 the victim was just trying to help his daughter who was attacked by two men as she walked into the building.
Police identified the victim as 43-year-old Philip Scarlett, a father of four. They say he was inside an apartment waiting for his daughter to arrive. That’s when officials say she walked into the building and into the hallway and encountered two men with masks on. Police say the men grabbed her and she yelled, which is when Scarlett tried to step in and help her. After a struggle, police say they pulled a gun and shot him multiple times before running out of the building.
He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police say they are now looking for the two men. One is described as being in his 30s about 5 feet, 10 inches and around 220 pounds. The other suspect is believed to be in his 20s, about 5 feet, 9 inches and around 175 pounds.
Police are looking into whether robbery was a possible motive.
Scarlett’s mother, Janet Howell, spoke exclusively to News 12 Brooklyn saying Scarlett’s daughter had gone into the building to meet him at his girlfriend’s apartment on the sixth floor Sunday afternoon.
“She had a hoodie on like this, and the person yanked her hoodie and she cried out ‘Daddy’ and that’s when he came out and grabbed her and threw her in the house,” says Howell.
She says the two men then turned on him.
“They hit him in his forehead and dragged him to the fifth floor and shot him,” says Howell.
Howell says her son moved to Brooklyn from Jamaica about three years ago, taking a job at a cleaning company.
She and her family are just hoping justice can be served.
“When I say justice, I mean justice because he is not a person to go around and cause problems,” says Howell.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
