Fire claimed the life of two persons, including a five year old boy, in the community of Middleton, St. Thomas last night.
According to reports News, sometime after 9 pm, the man and the child had returned home from a shop in the community, following which an explosion was heard and fire was seen coming from the four apartment board house.
Residents rushed to their assistance, but the raging fire quickly spread engulfing the building.
The fire department was called and one unit from Morant Bay responded.
While carrying out cooling down operations, the charred remains of the man and the child were found. The mother of the boy, who reportedly fainted, was rushed to hospital where she remains.
It is believed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
