Five persons were shot, one fatally, during an exchange of gunfire between the police and gunmen in Half Way Tree Square Friday afternoon. One of the gunmen was shot in the incident and a gun recovered from him. He is now in custody. It’s reported that shortly after 5 o’clock, two gunmen, one of them wearing a hoodie, opened gunfire, injuring a man they were trailing in Park Plaza. This forced shoppers and pedestrians to scamper for cover. Plainclothes policemen who were in the area challenged the men and this led a running gun battle along Constant Spring Road. One of the gunmen was shot and arrested. It was then discovered that three pedestrians were shot in the melee. One of them was later pronounced dead at hospital. The deceased has not been identified. The others have been admitted for treatment.
