After boarding an #AmericanAirlines flight last night headed to Jamaica and being comfortably seated for a few seconds, I realized in dismay that my phone was left at the gate area (still on the charger).I could not afford to lose another phone!! I quickly sueezed my way to the front and was attempting to leave the aircraft when I was stopped.
I explained that I had left my phone right at the gate area, not far. The flight attendant graciously told me to hurry. As soon as she did another airline staff appeared and said I could NOT leave the plane. I repeated my situation and she looked at me coldly and said “that’s your problem, not mine”. The “kind” flight attendant told her that I would be quickly escorted by another staff to retrieve my phone since persons were still boarding. She insisted I could not leave and if I did, she would give MY seat (which was paid for) to someone on standby. The “kind” flight attendant recoiled in shock and asked WHY she was being so mean and pointed out that her response was totally unecessary-ppl were still boarding and we still had time, plus I was being escorted. She repeated her threats about giving away my seat and a disagreement ensued while I stood there literally pleading to just grab my phone. I would’ve been back already by the time they had finished arguing.
The “kind” flight attendant, realizing she was getting nowhere, knocked up the pilot and told him what was happening…Pilot came out of the cockpit and said “I dont see a problem, I’ll get the phone for her myself.” Pilot left and brought my phone with a big smile. Simple as..
There are many lessons from this (including me remembering stuff) but sometimes people are in positions of power, literal gatekeepers and we can choose to be understanding and compassionate but people often choose to be hard and difficult! For no good and wise purpose and even to the detriment of others. This is a very basic example but everyday people who are in postions to help, use them to hinder and block progress. People just don’t care. Interestingly, I find that this happens most often from women-women. We should stop it, it’s highly unecessary and just mean! Let’s purpose to be more #helpful and #considerate. It really doesn’t cost anything
I would have gotten her name and write American Airline or whoever she is employed by about her behavior. Putting pen to paper I have found is a very powerful tool.
Or better still, why not write and [overly] praise the Pilot and the “good” Flight Attendant for their graciousness and willingness to provide outstanding customer service? Ignore the bitch!
Totally agree, worse thing to have a female boss and work for a company that comprise of mostly females. Bay attitude for no reason. Don’t even mention the gossiping
Suh u know the bitch hate the kind one now. Smh. Thank God tour phone was still there after all of that.
Wow, a little bit of kindness can go a long way.
