GRADE SIX TEACHER SHOT AND KILLED

A Grade 6 teacher was shot at his house in Westmeade, Portmore Wednesday morning and later died in hospital.

Senior Superintendent Clive Blair, commanding officer for the St Catherine South police division, told RJR News that the 35 year old teacher, Clevon Campbell was attacked sometime after 3 o’clock, when two men, one armed with a gun, broke into his house.

He said there was a struggle between Mr. Campbell and the armed intruder, which ended with the householder being shot several times.

“The investigation is on in earnest and we are seeking the public’s assistance to provide us with any information, Superintendent Blair said.

Roy John-Keith, Principal of Belmont Park Primary, told RJR News that Mr Campbell, who had been on staff for less than a year, was one of three male teachers at the school.

He said the staff and students had been greatly affected by the killing of the teacher.

“A lot of students were having problems dealing with it, but it is beginning to settle in and the guidance teams have been guiding them through as how best to cope under the circumstances,” he said.
