The National Water Commission (NWC) has said the Hermitage Dam which supplies sections of the Corporate Area could run out of water within a few weeks, if the dry spell continues.
Charles Buchanan, NWC Corporate Communications Manager, said despite restrictions, the water level continues to decline.
The Hermitage Dam is now at 25 per cent of capacity.
It is declining by at least half a percentage point daily.
Mr. Buchanan explained that despite there being some rainfall in parts of the Corporate Area, it is not occurring in the Hermitage Dam water shed, which is where it is needed most. In addition to that, where the rainfall does occur in the Hermitage water shed, it has not been sustained or heavy enough to make a difference to the stream flows.
He warned that if the water level of the dam continues to decline, the NWC would be “entirely dependent on other water supply systems and sources to supply the Corporate Area,” however, other alternative measures would also be implemented.
Stanton Terrace pipeline
Meanwhile, the NWC said cracks on the Stanton Terrace pipeline resulted in customers in sections of Kingston being without water for the last three days.
Customers off Deanery Road and surrounding areas have been complaining about a lack of water for almost a week.
Similar complaints have been made by residents of Harbour View.
Mr. Buchanan said it took longer than expected for water to be restored to some areas because of difficulties in fixing the pipeline.
However, he said water is now being restored to affected areas.
