Disruption in drugs for guns trade possibly causing increase in Clarendon robberies –
National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang has theorised that the disruption of the drugs for guns trade may be a factor behind the increase in armed robberies in Clarendon.
Sections of the parish have been plagued by armed robberies in recent months.
A soldier was fatally shot in Clarendon Park in the latest incident which occurred on Sunday.
Dr. Chang, who admitted that there is a high incidence of robberies in that area, noted that it would have to be investigated whether these incidents were related the fact that there was “more interception of the travelling drug trade.”
The National Security Minister said the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard has been making a significant dent in the guns for drugs trade by interrupting “a fair number of vessels leaving Jamaica.”
“In fact, I think the amount of drugs involved exceed 30,000 pounds of ganja, which is a lot of money; and of course, some coke was involved as well. So when you disrupt gangsters who are used to earning that kind of money…they will react otherwise,” he said.
Last week, Dr. Chang revealed that more than 20,000 pounds of ganja have been intercepted by the Coast Guard since the end of March.
He believes the ganja was intended for the guns for drugs trade.
Look like Chang a drink madd puss piss or him a tek some a di coke cause a fuckery yuh chat… Suh dem muss lowe di guns mek dem come choo suh dem can kill off more ppl??? Suh yuh apart a di ganster trade den yuh fi DEAD a dat mi a tell yuh… Some a unnu whey hace power fi DEAD by dem same guns deh whey yuh dutty chang a allow fi come choo yeah.
I’m not so sure if Horace Chang is a complete idiot or if he thinks the citizens of Jamaica are.
I could be completely wrong but I read the ministers comment as theorising why there was a spike in robberies due to the capture of drugs so it was messing with the criminals money. It didn’t read like he was justifying anything more that he was stating the correlation between the two issues.
