Enhanced prison security is finally on the horizon as long-promised equipment is imminent, such as cellphone jammers, grabbers and body scanners. Justice Minister Prakash Ramadhar told TV6 News the procurement process has been completed and the contracts for the delivery of the equipment would be given out shortly. With the bureaucracy apparently over, President of the Prisons Officers Association – Ceron Richards, says they’re cautiously optimistic about Government finally carrying out the recommendations of the 2013 Deosaran Report. He admitted that cellphones are prevalent in prisons allowing inmates to communicate with the outside, even using social media such as these revealing photos which were posted on Facebook.
