A Jamaican man is among eight persons arrested by the Guyanese police, following Wednesday morning’s discovery of high powered weapons and illegal drugs on two boats entering the country.
The guns and drugs were seized on the Barima River.
It is reported that a Police and Guyana Defence Force patrol intercepted the men in the boats and seized two AK-47 rifles along with several rounds.
They also seized an undetermined quantity of ganja as well as bullet proof vests and other supplies.
The Guyana police say the arrests come amid increased robberies in the gold mining region of the country.
