JUSTICE SERVED

Ex-Cop Gets Life In Prison For Murder Of 17-Year-Old Companion, To Serve 20 Years Before Parole

Former police constable Linvale Aird has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder a 17-year-old girl he killed then framed another man for the crime.

Aird is to serve 20 years in prison before he becomes eligible for parole.

High Court judge Martin Gayle handed down the sentence yesterday.

Earlier this month, the former constable was convicted for shooting and killing his female companion, Shauna-Kay Clarke along Great George’s Street in Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland in April 2010.

The seven-member jury deliberated for 20 minutes before arriving at their verdict in the Westmoreland Circuit Court.

Before his arrest in September 2010, the former constable who was attached to the Westmoreland Criminal Investigation Branch, blamed Clarke’s death on another man, identified as Andre Campbell.

Campbell was charged and placed before the court, but the case was discontinued after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions intervened.
