September 1 set aside to commemorate Kendal train crash
Culture Minister Olivia Grange, has announced that from this year, September 1 will be observed as the date on which the nation officially commemorates the Kendal train crash.
Today marks the 60th anniversary of the tragedy.
Miss Grange said a special exhibition will be among several activities commemorating the crash.
Many of those who died in the crash were members of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Kingston who had gone on an excursion to Montego Bay and were returning to Kingston on the ill-fated train.
Some 186 people were killed and many more injured
This is something worth recognition. Too many people died in one day just to forget them.
