A 51-year-old London man was yesterday sentenced to six months at hard labour and fined $1.45 million in the St James Parish Court.
He is Royston Place, an appliance technician, of London, England. He was sentenced for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Reports are that Royston was attempting to board a flight to Brussels, Belgium on February 25 at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, about 1:50 p.m. when three pounds of cocaine was found in a false compartment of suitcase he was carrying.
He was subsequently arrested and charged and was found guilty at a previous court date.
When Royston appeared in court on Friday for sentencing, he was fined $700,000 for possession of cocaine; $750,000 for attempting to export cocaine and was ordered to serve a mandatory six-month sentence at hard labour.
