Cops link Manchester double murder victims to lottery scamming

MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Pockets of discussion ignited among concerned residents here on Thursday, after two men, who the police believe were involved in lottery scamming, were shot dead.

Comments such as: “Dem nuh love dem life,”; “Dem nah learn,” could be heard.

Phillip Knight, 28, otherwise called “Chase”, was shot dead along with Andrew Thomas, 25, who is also known as “Bank Puss”.

Both men are reportedly from Comfort district, one of Manchester’s troubled communities.

Police reports are that about 4:30 pm, Knight, Thomas and another man were at a restaurant on Manchester Road, in the vicinity of Church Teachers’ College, when they were pounced upon by armed men travelling in a motor car.

The other man is said to be still hospitalised.

Superintendent of the Manchester Police Division ,Wayne Cameron said that there is reason to believe that all three men were actively involved in the illegal lottery scam.

He said Thursday’s shooting may have been a reprisal for the killing of another man, Shanel Baker, 20, in the Broadleaf community Sunday night.

Police investigations Thursday on Manchester Road, one of the major thoroughfares in the parish, resulted in traffic being diverted.

The Manchester police say no one has been held but that they are continuing their probe of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
