Man accused of attacking ex after seeing her with his replacement
A man who used a Dragon Stout bottle to hit his ex-girlfriend in her head in a fit of jealousy after he saw her talking to her new beau was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court last week.
The jealous ex, Floyd Smith is facing a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.
The court heard that on the night of May 27, the complainant stopped in her community of Mount James, St Andrew, to talk to her male companion who was sitting inside his car. Reports are that when the complainant’s partner left, Smith confronted her.
Smith reportedly questioned the complainant about the man whom she was with and was told that he was her lover. He reportedly became enraged and used a bottle to hit her to the side of her face, causing a wound that bled.
Further reports are that the complainant had to be rescued by a neighbour.
The matter was reported and Smith was arrested and charged.
On Friday when the matter was mentioned, Parish Judge Chester Crooks asked the complainant: “You broke up with him and he won’t take no for an answer?”
She replied: “Yes, Your honour.”
However, the prosecutor told the judge that during the alleged attack, the complainant said she felt a ‘thing’ on the accused and that she saw him using that ‘thing’ to fire shots in the air.
The judge as a result, requested Smith’s criminal record and instructed the prosecutor to make the disclosure to Smith’s lawyer.
A July 20 date was then scheduled for him to return to court, when his lawyer is expected to make a bail application.
