Man Convicted For Killing Bar Patron In Manchester
A man who fatally shot a patron at a bar in Manchester after he tried to foil a robbery has been convicted of murder.
A seven-member jury deliberated for 25 minutes before returning a unanimous guilty verdict in the murder trial of Kemar Effes in the Manchester Circuit Court yesterday.
Effes is to be sentenced on October 30.
Prosecutors Andrea Martin Swaby and Steve Walters led evidence that Effes and another man entered a bar in Manchester on the night of March 23, 2013 and robbed patrons of personal items.
According to prosecutors, one of the patrons, identified as Lawrence Smith, resisted and wrestled with the robbers before Effes placed a gun to his neck and shot him.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said that Kemar Effes was sentenced to 25 years, this is not so.
