A 33 year old man pleaded guilty on Friday to partially scrapping a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus.
Nicholas McCalla pleaded guilty before the St. Andrew Parish Court.
He was sentenced to nine months, suspended for a year.
Prosecutors reported that, on May 20 this year, McCalla jumped the fence at the JUTC’s depot on East Kingston and removed the door from one of the buses.
He was arrested two weeks later when the door was found at his Windward Road residence.
The JUTC valued the door at $400,000.
The police say McCalla was preparing to sell the door as scrap metal.
The JUTC has been complaining about persons damaging and vandalising its buses, costing the company millions of dollars in repairs.
He should have gotten 40 months at hard, hard labor!
