Pleasant good afternoon, Sir Tuffton… On behalf of my family, we would like for you to take the time out to read through this report, and we would like for you to acknowledge our problem, better yet, we would like for u to put in action, fixing the problems… Not problems only affecting our family, but other families with similar cases, due to the death and worsening of our people sickness and diseases… We believe that the Savanna_La_Mar is putting our people lives at stake… We would like for you to put yourself in our shoes… Our family has been through two similar cases… One past case, whereby one of our dearest family member died at the same hospital because they are not giving their patients the right treatments for the sickness or illnesses… June 07, because his temperature was high, and he could not breath on his own, upon arriving at the Hospital, they skipped registration and sent the mother to give her child a sponge bath immediately, after which, the Baby was registered and sent to the Doctor’s office, the Doctor did his regular check ups, and gave a prescription, A PANADOL MEDICINE, they were sent out. After which another check on the baby transpired and it was clear that the baby’s temperature had no fallen, and still he could hardly breathe, as time goes by, he worsen. Not saying the Doctors and Nurses aren’t good at their jobs, not saying they don’t know what to do, but they were treating the child for sickle cell, assuming he had sickle cell… After messing up the baby’s system with all sorts of different medication, treating him for god knows what.. They finally started to take the child in hand, as they tried to seek another Hospital to be responsible for what they were doing wrong, they tried hospitals, like
they tried hospitals, like: Montego Bay Hospital, Falmouth Hospital, both responses were no space.. A Public General Hospital is suppose to facilitate for the people who needs help, worse if that hospital has the right equipments and machines to treat and care for certain type of sickness… Savanna_La_Mar Hospital has no form of machine, if someone needs a surgery, for cancer and such, they have to be transfered, or sent to Royal, which simple tests costs many thousands of dollars… After which they tried the Bustamate Children Hospital… No helicopters were available to transfer the dying child.. I want to know how long it takes for something as fast as a helicopter to move from Westmoreland to Portland, and how many times per day in can travel from one place to the next, how is there NO helicopter at all present??? One certain Hospital who was willing to take the child, ask for a test, a test to see what was wrong with the child, and what they would be treating the child for..
So said, so done, the cost for the test at Royal was $38,000, they paid and the test was done. The results for the test, there was nothing wrong with the child, he had no sickle cell, so all that treatment for sickle cell worsen the child and he was bever cured. Upon returning from Royal, they gave him oxygen again, a family member who knows about such machine told them that the machine was not working and something on it was not working properly, they dismissed the family member. Putting on and fixing the oxygen, mouth part of the oxygen coming off and falling to the ground, result in more shortness of breath, remember the baby can hardly breathe on his own.. So he needs the oxygen. Losing the power to actually breathe, his lifetime slowly decreased on Sunday night, he died, about seven (7) Doctors and Nurses started to care after the child took his last breath, as they tried to pump life into the baby, not getting any sign of the baby breathing again.
Children really need to be treated in a children’s hospital. I never trust general hospitals for severe pediatric cases. Even inserting an IV can be an issue for ppl who do not deal with sick children daily,as is dosing.
What an awful story. The hospital underestimated the severity of the child’s illness and wasted precious time. I wish the family all the best.
JA health system is in the sewer. Why do you think Seaga went to Miami? he didn’t want to die in KPH.
something has to be done with the healthcare system on the Island. It saddens me that someone/ anyone especially a child be denied adequate care because of space. The healthcare system needs to be overhauled and if it’s anything Jamaica should be following is western civilization healthcare systems
Oh come one. There are any amount of private hospitals in JA with state of the art equipment that anyone with the financial resources can easily access. Seaga went to Miami because he wanted to, I wouldn’t have wasted time and energy on a late stage cancer in old age, I would have stayed home and died in peace in my peaceful surroundings than in some cold hospital being attended to by strangers and surrounded by sick people. But ppl are free to take any road they want with their health, but to me if death is on your doorstep meet it with a smile. These ppl in the story do not appear to be of means so they depended entirely on the public system and could not even access the private hospital system that is available. There is so much bureaucracy in Healthcare and I feel like these ppl got caught up in the red tape. If a helicopter was not available, couldn’t the hospital have arranged for an ambulance to drive the child to Kingston? Isn’t the new highway supposed to make transportation swifter across the nation. Demanding a test before the child can even enter the hospital, do the damn test when the child is there if it is that important. I have had a breathing issue once and I would never want to die in this manner, it is a very painful thing to not be able to breathe properly and extremely distressing mentally, this poor child suffered before they died.
That is how sav hospital is, today mark 6 years since they kill 1 of my kids. The child born premature and the had her in a incubator on the 8th day of birth they over feed her and the lungs not fully develop so u know how that go. In 2015 go there to have my second child, him born breeding heavy and they don’t have any ventilator in the whole Jamaica because we call bout public and private hospital, so I know what this family talking about
