Another JCF membe was arrested in connection with the St. Catherine-based Uchence gang that the lawmen say has been wreaking havoc across the country.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey, head of the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC), made the disclosure Tuesday morning at a media conference.
ACP Bailey said the officer will now face an identification parade.
“Based on what we have, I think after the ID parade, a decision will be taken…but we do not take in people into custody just based on anecdocatal evidence; the evidence that we have is real, and so after the ID parade, the appropriate action will be taken,” he announced.
The gang has been on the police radar since May of this year and was alleged to be involved in murders, shootings, robberies, and cases of rape in St. Catherine, St. Ann, St. Andrew, Manchester, Trelawny, St. Mary and Clarendon.
Alleged gang leader 27 year old Uchence Wilson, otherwise called ‘Terrence’, along with 24 other gang members, including a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and three women, were arrested during raids in recent weeks.
The police officer who was arrested among the 25 persons earlier this month in connection with the Uchence gang has been charged with Accessory Before the Fact in the Carrying out of a Serious Offence by a Criminal Organisation.
ACP Bailey added that the leader of the gang has also been charged with Leadership of a Criminal Organisation, Facilitating Serious Offence by Criminal Organisation, and Illegal Possession of Firearm.
Some of the persons arrested in connection with the gang are to appear in court on Wednesday.
