POLICE ACCUSED OF STEALING 50K FROM TEACHER

A member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) who was charged with stealing £50,000 from the home of a high school teacher in St. Catherine, was freed on Wednesday.

Corporal Donald Thompson was freed before the St. Catherine Parish Court after prosecutors conceded that the main witness was inconsistent in her testimony.

Prosecutors had reported that on October 1, 2015, Corporal Thompson was a member of a police team which raided the teacher’s house in Hellshire, St. Catherine.

Following the operation, the teacher filed a report with MOCA, complaining that the money was stolen from her home by Corporal Thompson.

The money was reportedly being saved for the purchase of a house.

But during the trial on Wednesday, the teacher admitted under cross examination from defence attorney Peter Champagnie, that she did not mention in her statement that she saw the policeman leaving with the money.

Prosecutors then offered no further evidence against the policeman
