The Statement from the US Government notes that Mr. Seaga was born in Massachusetts and was a close friend and valued partner of the United States.
The statement says former US President, Ronald Reagan, awarded Mr. Seaga the 1982 freedoms foundation American friendship Medal for courageous leadership which strengthened democratic institutions and the free market economy.
The US says it’s thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Seaga’s family and fellow citizens as they mourn his passing.
