THE Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the fatal shootings of two men in separate incidents in St Catherine and Kingston yesterday.
According to INDECOM, the police reported that officers were on mobile patrol in Black Land, March Pen Road, Spanish Town, when they came under gunfire. Following the shooting, Andrade McDonald, 18, was found dead.
The police have reported that a shotgun was recovered at the scene in the March Pen Road community. Early yesterday morning, residents set up roadblocks in the community to protest against the police killing. INDECOM has, however, appealed to the residents to desist from expressing their anger in that manner and “allow for due process as we investigate the incident”.
The other fatal shooting occurred on South Camp Road while three officers, who were on mobile patrol in the area,reportedly came under gunfire. Police reported that a 9mm Ruger pistol was seized following the shooting.
The name of the deceased in that incident was not released.
INDECOM said its teams processed both scenes and the bodies of the deceased, while the officers concerned gave an initial account of the incidents. They were served with notices to visit INDECOM’s offices and provide an account of the incidents to be for recording purposes
