The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of a member of an armed robbery gang said to be terrorising Ughelli, Warri and Udu environs through a mobile phone stolen from a victim, as well as an 80-year-old man, who allegedly repairs the gang’s guns.
The Police Commissioner in the state, Adeyinka Adeleke, who disclosed this on Thursday in Asaba, gave the names of the suspects as Emmanuel Patrick and Udenmba Ndu Ben.
Patrick, 32, who hails from the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, confessed to the crime and gave the names of other members of the gang.
The suspect, who was arrested with a pump action gun and seven cartridges, admitted to partaking in three armed robbery operations in the state.
Adeleke stated that the suspect led the police to the gang’s armoury, where two other pump action guns, four double-barrelled guns, one single-barrelled gun, one air gun, 274 cartridges, two bulletproof jackets and four bullet holders were recovered.
According to him, the gang’s 80-year-old armourer, Udenmba, hails from the Eskusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
“Udenmba also confessed to the crime and admitted being in charge of servicing of the gangs firearms and also supplying them with ammunition. The armourer said he did not manufacture guns, but was repairing, buying and selling arms and ammunition. The team is intensifying efforts towards arresting the other fleeing gang members,” the CP added.
