My Husband And His Mum Are Drunks; Served Our 4-Yr-Old Kid A Cup Of Beer At Each Meal, Aborted My Pregnancies —Wife
“I’m married into a family of drunks. My husband and my mother in-law daily drink themselves to stupour and have already introduced our only child, a four-year-old to alcohol. My mother in-law also brings her lovers to our house while she and my husband have terminated my pregnancy more than once.”
“I’ve caught her in her shop with five different men. I can’t explain what happened to her second pregnancy because it is not mine.”
These were some of the evidence given by a couple, Olaitan Abass and her husband, Ibrahim Abass.

Olaitan had approached Ile Tuntun Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, praying that it puts an end to their marriage.
Olaitan accused her husband and mother in-law of being drunks and introducing their only child into the practice. She added that her mother in-law did the cooking in their home and was in the habit of bringing home her lovers.

The plaintiff further stated that her husband and her mother in-law aborted her pregnancy more than once while her mother was responsible for her upkeep and that of their child. According to her, she gave her and their kid feeding allowance every month.
“My four-year-old marriage to my husband has been hellish. My husband and his family members have made life tough for me as a result of their constant display of moral decadence.
“My mother in-law does the cooking in our home. I can’t remember ever cooking for my husband since we got married because she never allowed me to do so.
“My lord, I’m married to the family of drunks. My husband and his mother drink alcohol like water; they drink themselves to stupour almost every day. Worse is the fact that they have introduced our only child, a four-year-old to alcohol. My mother in-law serves our child a cup of beer per meal and this he gulps down within a second and licks his lips, “Olaitan stated.
“My husband is in the habit of drinking bottles of beer before having sex with me. I hardly enjoy sex with him as a result of this because his breathe and body smells of alcohol.
“The only time we share the same bed is when we have sex. At other times, he sleeps in the sitting room.
“I was twice pregnant but my husband and my mother in-law aborted both pregnancies. I was given Seven Up drink mixed with concoctions, “the plaintiff added.
“My husband apart from drinking himself to stupour does nothing else in the home. He doesn’t care about my welfare and that of our children. Initially, we were jointly paying our child’s school fees, but he later stopped and left the responsibility solely to me. My lord, but for my mum, I would probably have been going round begging for food. My mum gives me and our child feeding allowance every month. She also came to my aid twice by paying my shop rent.
“While my mother does all she could to make life comfortable for me the reverse is the case with my mother in-law. My mother in-law is morally loose and is in the habit of bringing her lovers to our home, the latest being a politician. I complained to my husband but he saw nothing bad in it.
“My lord, my mother in-law always refused that I take our child along with me to my parents’ house when paying them a visit. I took him along the last time I did and left him there with the plan of picking him the following day.
“My husband, mother in-law and sister in-law on learning of this, went to my parents’ house, beat them and got them arrested with the police.
“My lord, my marriage to my husband is obviously a mistake. I earnestly want him out of my life so that I can start my life afresh.
“Aside this, there is no way I can raise a well-brought up child in a home filled with drunks and the morally loose.
“I, therefore, pray the court to dissolve our marriage and grant me custody of our child in order that I could nurture him properly, “she said.
Ibrahim while giving his evidence agreed to divorce and stated that:”My lord, I’m also ready for divorce.
“My wife is stubborn and loves to have her way. She lives home early for shop and will not return until late. She doesn’t come home earlier than 7:00 pm. I’ve warned her against this but she refused to heed my warning.
“She lied that my mother and I aborted her pregnancies. My lord, she’s a slot. I can only lay claim to her first pregnancy which produced our only child, but I’m not responsible for the second one and can’t explain how it was aborted.
“I caught her in her shop at five different occasions with strange men, “he stated.
“We fought and she left home with our child for her parents’ house after I had warned her against this. She even had the guts to leave our child there while her parents had the effrontery to tell me he would be with them for six years.
“I went to see my father in-law and he told me he was the one who asked my wife to move out of my house. The following day, I was served a court summon, “Ibrahim told the court.
Ruling, the court president, Chief Olasunkanmi Agbaje stated that more evidence would be needed before judgment was given.
He, therefore, adjourned the case till March 13 and ordered both parties to return to court on the adjourned date with their child and parents.
