A woman, Yetunde Folarin has told Oja Oba/ Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State she’s no longer interested in her 12-year-old marriage to her husband, Adeyemi Folarin.
Yetunde in her divorce suit alleged neglect and indifference by her husband to her predicament. She thus appealed to the court to end their marriage so that she could move on with her life.
Adeyemi, responding admitted to claim.
Yetunde giving her evidence told the court: “My husband and I live and relate like strangers. Our marriage has obviously failed. I have therefore decided to drag him to court in order to make the dissolution of our marriage legal.
“My lord, the major reason I’m seeking divorce is that our marriage has not been blessed with an issue. We therefore have nothing to show for the years we have been married.
“My husband unfortunately shows no concern towards my predicament. He is indifferent to my plight.
“I feel sad and frustrated always because he doesn’t give me rest of my mind. He has a caustic tongue and this he uses in humiliating me at every given opportunity.
“He is not bothered about my state of infertility and therefore not interested in finding a lasting solution to it. I cajole and beg him to go with me to the hospital any time we were given appointment for medical examination.
“My lord, there was never a time he offered to pay for these medical consultations. I pay every time we visited a doctor, “Yetunde told the court.
“Adeyemi has no regard for my parents. He insults them because I have failed to give him a child.
“The last time we visited a doctor, I was asked to resign from work because of the nature of my job which was quite demanding. The doctor explained that this could probably delay conception. “Immediately I resigned from work my husband stopped giving me feeding allowance and cared less about my survival.
“My lord, I find no joy in my marriage. My husband and I are obviously not compatible. I pray the court to separate us before I end up in depression, “the plaintiff stated.
Giving his evidence Adeyemi stated:”My lord, I also don’t want to stay a minute longer in our marriage.
“I have gone through hell for the 12 years my wife and I have been married. She has failed to acknowledge my position as head of the home. She acts the boss and flouts my orders.
“I reported her to her parents but rather than counsel her they put blame on me.
“Yetunde relates with irresponsible people. She’s comfortable having them as her friends.
“I have warned her on several occasions to desist from moving around with them but she turned deaf ears to me. She prefers to take counsels from them, “he said.
Giving his judgment, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade, observed that their union had broken down irrevocably.
Ruling, he dissolved their marriage.
