I Built Her A School, Shop, Yet She Starves Me, Turned Our Children Against Me
A man, Kanise Adebowale, has told Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, he no longer desires to continue with his wife, Beatrice Adebowale, in their 21-year old marriage.
Kanise alleged that his wife was unfaithful, non-appreciative and fetish and these according to him, had put a strain on their relationship.
He, therefore, implored the court to end their marriage.
Beatrice, when the claim was read to her, gave her consent to divorce.
“My lord, my twenty-one-year-old marriage to Beatrice has not been a happy one. I don’t wish to go further in it which is my reason for coming to court,” Kanise stated.
“My wife is fetish and will soon get rid of me. I don’t want to labour and die without eating the fruit of my labour.
“Beatrice is unappreciative of all I do for her. Many women if in her shoes would never stop worshipping their husbands.
“I gave her a meaningful amount to establish a business but the whole money went down the drain as a result of her business which went bankrupt.

“I again gave her money to establish a school seven years ago which is run in a two bedroom flat built by me. I also erected a row of four shops and gave her one where she sells soft drinks while I rented out the remaining three.
“My lord, Beatrice betrayed me. She reneged on our agreement that she will be giving me a specified percentage from whatever the school generates. She has not given me a dime since she started running the school,” Kanise lamented.
“My lord, Beatrice became defiant. She went against my order and started attending a church different from that where I worship. I have shown my displeasure at this but she has refused to change. She went further to spite me by making our children whom she has succeeded in turning against me, a member of her new church.
“To make matter worse, she and our children took to returning home late every Sunday. Beatrice is certainly not interested in my welfare despite all I have done to make her happy. She leaves me to starve every Sunday. On the few occasions that she was around, she cooked the first meal for that day late in the afternoon.
“My lord, my wife has constantly neglected me. I feel I’m alone despite being in the midst of my family members. In addition to this is the fear she has instilled in me as a result of her diabolic practices. I no longer enjoy my relationship with Beatrice. I, therefore, pray that we go our separate ways,” he stated.
“My lord, I’m surprised Kanise did not mention in his evidence that he beats me to a pulp always. I’m also ready to part ways with him before he kills me,” Beatrice said.
She went on: “It’s true I’m operating my school in his building neither do I deny the fact that he built a shop for me but he doesn’t give me rest of mind.
“My lord, after he set me up in the said business which went bankrupt, his fortune also nose-dived. I, therefore, went back to my teaching job. I was the one paying our children’s school fees and attending to other issues in the home throughout that period.
“Instead of appreciating me, all he did was to keep threatening and maltreating me.
“I became a regular face at his brother’s house where I went to report him any time he misbehaved. His brother often counselled him but he remained adamant. He later got fed up with Kanise’s atrocities that he advised that I moved out of his house.
