A husband told the court,“My, lord, my wife is stubborn and not submissive. She flouts my orders and takes decisions concerning the family all alone. She threatens to deal with me and rubs shoulder with me in the home. I have come to court for a divorce because two captains can’t be on a ship,” Mustapha Lukmon told Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Mustapha had approached the court, praying that it put an end to the 12-year-old marriage to his wife, Modinat Lukmon on the grounds that she was stubborn and not submissive. He added that she was in the habit of threatening him.
He further pleaded with the court if his prayer was answered, to grant him custody of their three children and restrain her from coming to fight him in his home or work place.
The plaintiff still giving his evidence added that, “My wife sees herself as the head of the home and acts in that stead.
“This is the fourth month she took our son away from home to an unknown place without my consent. She never discussed with me where she was taking the boy to. I have asked her severally but she has refused to give me a clue as to what is happening to him.

“She’s troublesome and has not given me rest of mind. Any time I complain of her atrocities or stand my ground on an issue, she would threaten to deal me.
“My lord, she actually made real her threat because I lost three shops filled with goods to an inferno in a single night. I felt like dying. This took its toll on my finances and fortune generally which noose-dived. My wife showed no concern or empathy towards my plight.
“My health is presently jeopardized because my life and home have known no peace for long.
“My lord, I pray that you put an end to our marriage so that I can put my life together again, “Mustapha stated.
“He brought trouble upon himself the day he took another wife, ”Modinat said.
“He was loving and caring. Our marriage was blissful and our home a happy one, but the presence of another woman in the home put a stop to all these.
“His attitude towards me and our children changed; he started living and behaving as if my children and I were no more relevant to him. His second wife became his idol which he worships every now and then.
“He no more cared how our children and I were faring and surviving.
“I reported him to his parents who counseled him but he didn’t change.
“He left home with his new wife. Seven years ago. Till date he never bothered to ask after us. I feed, clothe and train our children in school from my meager income.
“I have no hand in the disaster that brought a change in his fortune. It was a natural disaster which occurred years back and which affected many other shops aside his.
After listening to the duo, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade stated that the court would like to see the children before judgment was given.
He adjourned the case till December 20 and ordered both parties to come to court on the next adjourned date with their children.
