These were some of the words of a woman, Kadirat Adeleke before Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Kadirat Adeleke has approached Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, seeking that it dissolves her 12-year-old marriage to her husband, Sunday Adeleke on the accounts of irresponsibility and infidelity by the husband.
The plaintiff told the court she had had enough of her husband’s atrocities and wanted to start her life afresh.
She further appealed to the court if her prayer was answered to award her custody of their three children.
“My lord, while other women lavish their income on clothes and jewelry, I spent mine feeding and clothing my family and sending our children to school throughout the time I was with my husband, “Kadirat stated before the court.

“I started paying the rent immediately we got married because my husband was always complaining of paucity of fund. Even on occasions we both contributed towards the payment, I always put down the larger share.
“He also passed the responsibility of paying our children’s school fees to me. His contribution towards their education was minute. I worked round the clock and run helter-skelter to ensure their fees were paid as at when due, “the plaintiff said.
“My lord, my husband is nothing but an ingrate. Rather than being grateful for my commitment in seeing to it that things went well in the home, he became unfaithful to me.
“He embarrassed me in our compound and neighbourhood by having an affair with a neighbour’s wife who he had s3x with consistently. He lavished all his income on her and left me and our children in lack.
“The most annoying thing was that he started monitoring my movements from his location outside town and accused me of infidelity.
“I left him five months ago. This was after I returned home from work one evening and saw he had poured palm oil on our door step for ritual purpose.
“I pray this honourable court, aside separating us, to make him responsible for the welfare of our children, “she concluded.
“My lord, I don’t admit to claim because of our kids. If she finally leaves me, our children will suffer and the effect of a broken marriage will tell on them, “Sunday told the court.
“I work in Lagos and return at weekends. When leaving on Monday morning, I always gave her N5, 000 per week as feeding allowance but she was never satisfied.
“My mother had mediated in our differences on several occasions without any success.
“My lord, she told me she was tired of me and packed her belongings out of my house despite my appeal that she stayed, “he said.
Giving his judgment after listening to the duo, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade dissolved their marriage and gave the plaintiff custody of their three children.
The defendant was mandated to pay N12, 000 monthly as their children’s feeding allowance. He was also to bear the brunt of their education and health care among others.
