Chief Ademola Odunade, the court president of a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, recently dissolved the 15 year-old marriage between one Abiodun Oluwale and Oladipo Oluwale, over distrust and incessant battery.
Odunade said he dissolved their marriage in the interest of peaceful living.
He awarded custody of the four children produced by the union to the plaintiff and ordered the defendant to pay N20,000 as the children’s monthly feeding allowance in addition to been responsible for their education and other welfare.
In her petition to the court, Abiodun, an estate agent said that she was tired of the cat and rat marital lifestyle with her husband, therefore, the need for separation.
She further added that her husband had never been sincere from day one of their marriage.
“I submitted my entire life to Oladipo at the beginning of our marriage and he toyed with it.
“Oladipo has proved to be an irresponsible husband to me and father to our four children.

“I have been responsible for the payment of our children’s school fees, feeding and the house rent.
“When I had a good job, I allowed Oladipo to withdraw freely from my account. He withdrew all the money in my account some years back and ran away to the United States of America (USA), but he returned empty handed.
“All these did not stop him from punching me anytime he liked.
“My parents and his have both intervened times without number in our differences, but he refused to take a new leaf,” Abiodun explained.
The defendant, however, prayed the court not to grant his wife’s prayer, even though he could not completely absorb himself of most of the allegations leveled against him.
Oladipo submitted that the major cause of their problem was that his wife never obtained permission from him before attending church programmes.
“It is true that Abiodun sometimes assisted me with the payment of the house rent, but I only collected 30 per cent of the total sum from her.
“Abiodun is a stubborn wife. I go to the market to buy food and I care for our children.
“When she went to stay with her sick mother, I was solely responsible for the children’s care,” Oladipo said.
