My Husband Lied About His Religion, Attempted To Strangle Me —Wife
Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State has dissolved a six-year-old wedlock between a couple, Laide Aderinsola and Emmanuel Aderinsola.
Laide had approached the court, praying that it put an end to the relationship between her and her husband, Emmanuel, on the grounds of lack of care, deceit and threat to life.
She also appealed to the court, if her prayer was answered, to grant her custody of their two children and make her husband responsible for their care.

The plaintiff in addition implored the court to restrain the defendant from harassing or fighting her in her home or work place.
Emmanuel while responding admitted to claim.
Giving her evidence, Laide stated that: “My lord, my mother in-law has been my greatest since the outset of my marriage. She has consistently stood against my marriage to my husband and has always vowed that it will not work. She shows displeasure in whatever I do and always set my husband against me.
“My husband is deceitful. He lied to me when we met that he was a Muslim and I went into wedlock with him believing this. Few weeks into our marriage, he stopped me from carrying out prayers at home and attending mosque. He insisted I must go to church with him but I refused. This automatically fuelled the crisis in our home while his mother took sides with him always.
“He has refused to give me and our children the necessary attention. Though a literate, he behaves like someone who never attended school. He hardly gives me and our children feeding allowance, while he’s also not interested in our children’s education. I was the one who enrolled them in school and paying their school fees. He’s not in the position to rate our children’s academic performance because he never monitors them,” she said.
“My lord, we both contributed towards the building of the house we are presently living in, but he’s always threatening to throw my belongings out or get rid of me whenever we have a misunderstanding. We once fought and he would have strangled me but for neighbours who came to my rescue.
“My lord, I pray this honourable court to abort my union to my husband before he snuffs life out of me. I further appeal to the court to grant me custody of our children and make my husband responsible for their upkeep and education among other things,” she added.
“I admit to claim,” Emmanuel stated when the claims were read to him.
“I’ve known no peace since I got married to my wife. She is not submissive and loves to have her ways always.
“She lied that my mother stood against our marriage. She’s arrogant and treats my mother with disdain.
“I take care of her and our children to the best of my ability but she’s never satisfied.
“My lord, if her wish is to divorce me, then let it be. But I pray the court to grant me custody of our children,” the defendant said.
Ruling after he had listened to both parties, the court president, Chief Ademola Odunade, dissolved their wedlock and granted custody of their two children to the plaintiff.
The defendant was asked to pay N10,000 monthly through the court for their children’s upkeep and be responsible for their education and health care.
Both parties were admonished to maintain peace.
