A married official in the ministry of agriculture based at Ngundu Halt Business Centre in Chivi has committed suicide by drinking poison allegedly because his live-in sex worker was cheating on him.
Fortune Jeremia Manyuka, who was the Agricultural Extension Officer in Ngundu, had a dispute with Chipiwa Pedzisai of Pedzisai Village under Chief Madzivire.
Acting Masvingo Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna has confirmed the incident which happened last Friday.
Nduna urged people to seek counselling from elders, churches or Police when they have serious disputes.
Sources said that Manyuka burnt all the property in the house where they were cohabitating with the sex worker and was arrested and charged with malicious injury to property. He upon his release allegedly went on a drinking spree at a nearby bottle store.
He later went back home where he drank poison and was rushed to Ngundu Clinic and was referred to Neshuro District Hospital where he died in the early hours of the following day.
Manyuka was said to have been co-habiting with Chipiwa for a long time while his wife worked at Mugwari Primary School a few kilometres from Ngundu. A misunderstanding is said to have erupted between him and his girlfriend over cheating by the girlfriend.
