Man arrested for raping wife’s 15-year-old sister
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an agent at a diagnostic centre along Gbagada-Oshodi Road, Ademola Ojomu, for allegedly raping the younger sister of his wife.
Saturday PUNCH learnt that the victim lived with the couple in their residence on Albert Street, Somolu, a densely populated community.
He was said to have molested the 15-year-old girl for about two years with a threat that he would stop paying her school fees if she divulged the information to a third party.
It was gathered that the Senior Secondary School One pupil mustered courage a few days ago and confided in one of her school teachers.
The incident was consequently brought to the attention of a child rights group in the community – Child Protection Network – which reported it at the Onipanu Police Station.
The coordinator of the group, Toyin Okanlawon, said the girl had been taken to a shelter in Lagos while the suspect was transferred to the gender unit of the state police command in Ikeja.
He said, “According to the girl, her sister’s husband started having carnal knowledge of her in 2016 whenever the sister was not around.
“She said he always used condoms to prevent pregnancy. The suspect works at a diagnosis centre along Gbagada-Oshodi Road and pays the school fees of the girl. Anytime the girl complained about the unlawful act, he would threaten to stop paying her school fees.
“The man has a child and his wife is pregnant. She wants the case to be withdrawn from the police station so that he would not lose his job. But as a group, which insists that the interest of the child must be protected at all times regardless of who is involved, we decided to report the case to the police. He denied raping the girl.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, confirmed Ojomu’s arrest, adding that he would be charged to court on Monday.
He said, “I can confirm the incident. The man, who slept with his wife’s 15-year-old younger sister, is in police custody.
“We want to assemble all our facts carefully; he will be charged to court on Monday. The medical report of a test conducted on the girl will be out today (Saturday).”
