Man secretly aborts girlfriend’s pregnancy
A 27-year-old Harare man allegedly terminated his girlfriend’s pregnancy by inserting a pill into her genitals during sex in a bid to evade responsibility, the court heard yesterday.
Nicholas Mutorerwa, of Number 15 Jackson Road, Hatfield, who is also an employee of the Public Service Commission, was facing charges of unlawful termination of pregnancy when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo.
He was granted $50 bail with the State’s consent.
The prosecutor said the State was awaiting a medical affidavit from the hospital where Farai Musemburi (23) was treated.
Prosecuting, Ms Idah Maromo told the court that Musemburi had eloped to Mutorerwa after falling pregnant.
It is alleged that this prompted Mutorerwa to hatch a plan to evade responsibility.
The court heard that on January 9 this year, Mutorerwa secretly inserted a pill into Musemburi’s private parts while they were engaging in sex to induce termination of the pregnancy.
It is alleged that Musemburi started bleeding soon after being intimate with Mutorerwa which later led to the termination of the pregnancy.
The court heard that Mutorerwa later confessed to Musemburi that he had inserted a tablet into her private parts while they were being intimate which led to the termination of her pregnancy.
It is the State’s case that Musemburi was referred to hospital where she was examined by a doctor leading to Mutorerwa’s arrest.
